One might think that Death brings equality to people, no matter whom and what they were before they died, but no, that's not the case. For instance, Tudor England deemed it so very sinful to be a prostitute that the women who had made a living in that profession were excluded from "decent folks": No bone-mixing after death with those who may have been their customers in life!
In Crossbones they had their allotted spots with e.g. paupers and other "non-decent" citizens, and there they lay until 1853 when the churchyard was closed. Later on it was kind of "resurrected" as a memorial place for thoughts and regrets of people who had turned wiser. It has been estimated that it held at least 15,000 graves when it was closed.
"It's all the women's fault ...."
Crossbones is only one churchyard for prostitutes, paupers, etc. In some countries prostitutes have made their own graveyards and they themselves tend to them as the "decent" people don't want to have anything to do with them.
