Adoption

I kind of like the idea that humans may adopt babies and love these new additions to the family. Of course, I know that not all adoptions are successful. One of those less than successful adoptions happened when Muhammad adopted a young man, and - presumably - fell in love with his wife, sent him off to some less than safe place and married his widow. That story speaks volumes about the difficulties facing people in human adoptions.

Some adoptions in the animal world may seem stranger than strange. That goes for cats adopting what actually are on their natural menu. I understand cats adopting puppies, or dogs adopting kittens, but a cat which adopts birds seems very strange to me. 

By the way, that reminds me that many people talk of their pets as "adopted". Some also call cats and dogs "fur-babies", "daughters" or "sons". Well, I suppose that as many humans don't opt for human babies these days that figures, even though it does look strange to me. 

The not so eager parents may even suggest adopting their own children out of the family. It may be a solution in hopeless social circumstances, but still, it's sad.
