When USA Let Anne Frank and Her Family Down

Anne should have been able to live her life as a free, human being until old age. Maybe she would have become a writer or a scholar instead of a tragic symbol of cruelty. The U.S. government turned her as well as many others down, but in 1938, nine months before the official beginning of WWII, England opened its borders to around 10,000 children who were fleeing the Nazi regime. These children left their parents behind when they were sent out of Austria, Germany, Poland and Czechoslovakia to save their lives. This process was known as Kindertransport. At a time when most Jewish families were prevented from traveling abroad by lack of funds or stringent visa controls, this program was a miracle and it saved many young children.
